USH 14

Client: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Location: Richland County, Wisconsin

Donohue led the design of a 6.1-mile rural highway reconditioning of USH 14 in Richland County. The roadway improvement, consisting of 2-lane and 4-lane divided sections, required an asphalt pavement mill and overlay, multiple intersection upgrades, realignment of hazardous curves, and beam guard upgrades. To improve the site distance of the Tuckaway Valley intersection, the vertical alignment of the roadway was changed, resulting in the reconstruction of 1500 feet of roadway.

This project involved the design and detailing of two concrete culvert extensions and an asphaltic overlay of an existing three span reinforced concrete haunched slab bridge. Asphaltic overlay required rerating of the bridge per LRFD rating standards. Two additional culverts were rehabilitated and one culvert replaced by the Wisconsin DOT with the plans incorporated into the overall project.

The project was constructed in phases to maintain traffic on the roadway at all times.
